Couples Therapy

Why couples come to therapy

Couples come to therapy for many reasons. You may find yourselves having the same arguments repeatedly, feeling increasingly disconnected, struggling to communicate, or trying to rebuild your relationship after a difficult experience. Other couples seek therapy while navigating changes in intimacy, sexuality, trust, family life, or other major transitions.

I work with couples experiencing concerns related to:

Trust & relationship ruptures

Rebuilding trust following infidelity, breaches of trust, or other experiences that have affected the relationship

Strengthening your relationship

Developing a deeper understanding of one another and building healthier ways of communicating, connecting, and responding to difficulties together.

Intimacy & sexuality

Navigating differences in desire, sexual concerns, communication about sex, or changes in physical and emotional intimacy.

Emotional connection

Feeling distant, disconnected, or less emotionally close than you once were.

Life transitions

Adjusting together to significant changes, stressors, or new stages in your relationship.

Communication & recurring conflict

Difficult conversations, arguments that seem to go in circles, or feeling misunderstood by your partner.

A collaborative approach

Couples therapy is not about determining who is right or assigning blame. Instead, we work to understand the patterns that have developed between you, what each person brings to those patterns, and what may be keeping them going.

I typically begin by taking time to understand the concerns that brought you to therapy and each partner's experience of them. From there, we develop a shared understanding of what is happening in the relationship and identify what you would like to change. This gives us a framework for our work together rather than approaching individual conflicts or problems in isolation.

My approach is collaborative and draws particularly from Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), while integrating other evidence-based approaches when helpful. Even the early process of slowing things down, understanding one another's experiences, and recognizing recurring patterns can begin to create meaningful changes in how couples relate to one another.
